Your visit to AGROKTIMA may include day trips to monasteries, excursions to picturesque villages, hiking, mountain climbing, trekking, fishing, and swimming, to name just a few popular activities. Walk the narrow, picturesque streets of Leonidion and you’ll find yourself gazing at unforgettable vistas. The sights include traditional, aristocratic houses with flagstone and pebbled-paved courtyards, stone cisterns, ornate gates and lush gardens, stone sheep enclosures painted bright-white with lime. All are part of the charming Tsakonia style. Of course, our famous olive trees and citrus groves are everywhere! The town’s dwellings include historic 17th century homes and towers as well as neoclassical styles. There’s also a thriving array of local merchants and restaurants for your shopping and dining pleasure.

Day hikes may include a short walk to the Chapel of Panagia (Holy Mother) of Hatzaliou, or a bit further to the Chapels of St. George or Prophet Elias, and even higher to the Chapel of St. Athanasios. From these locations you can appreciate the fertile valley from different angles. Another wonderful hike with a lovely view can be found to the northwest of Leonidion, along the dirt road to the Monastery of St. Nicholas of Sintza. Excursions to the nearby small villages are recommended.
The route from Leonidion to the mountain town of Kosmas offers one of the most impressive access points to the Southern Peloponnese. After one particularly sharp curve in the winding road, the Monastery of Elona appears on the left, as if hanging from the red cliffs above. A turnoff on the road allows an excellent spot to photograph the monastery. You can drive (carefully!) or walk up for a visit to the monastery at a small intersection not far from this spot.

The village of Kosmas was built atop Mount Parnon at a height of 1.150 meters. It’s an ideal place to top and rest under gigantic sycamore trees that grace the town square. There you will also find an impressive church and a shop that sells pottery for which the village is renowned.
Closer to Leonidion (4 kilometers) is Plaka, a seaside settlement with a charming little harbor, beautiful pebble beaches, swimming and sailing, and some excellent traditional tavernas. North and to the left of Plaka is the famous beach of Lakos, which forms the eastern border of the valley of Leonidion. The area is richly cultivated, producing seasonal vegetables, citrus fruits and olives.
